Given that the series is a medical drama, you may have already guessed this part. Sendhil Ramamurthy has booked a "major recurring role" as a new doctor, per Deadline. Nothing else was shared about Ramamurthy's character. In a fun bit of a trivia, Ramamurthy is the son and brother of doctors.

The description of his role as "major" could be an assuring sign that Sendhil Ramamurthy could eventually have a heightened presence on New Amsterdam. As in, a series regular-style presence. The ensemble is fortunate to have him. Ramamurthy is a scene-stealing actor, as seen in Heroes and his wonderful stint on The CW's Beauty and the Beast.

New Amsterdam has had a knack for casting terrific talent to populate its ensemble. So, casting Sendhil Ramamurthy marks other surefire accomplishment for the series. When fans of the freshman medical drama will get their first glimpse of Ramamurthy's character was not revealed. As stated above, there are few details on Ramamurthy's role. Whether there is a reason for this amount of secrecy is intriguing to contemplate. New Amsterdam could be keeping the details scarce because his introduction will have huge plot implications. Perhaps he is connected to one of the already-introduced characters. Why else be so secretive? The fact that there is such a vague amount of info to go on could hint there is a reason for it.
