If you're gaming on PC and you've missed out on Destiny 2 this past year, Activision-Blizzard wants to remedy that. For a limited time, the game is being offered free of charge through Battle.net. Since this is the Destiny series' first trip to PC, this promotion should help inject a fresh army of Guardians into the games PvE and PvP modes.
During Blizzcon this week, Activision-Blizzard announced a rather surprising promotion for Destiny 2, making the game available free of charge between now and November 18. That gives you two weeks to pick up the base game on the platforms for zero dollars, and all you need to complete the process is a Blizzard.net account. According to Gameinformer, it was noted during the first day of Blizzcon that this was being done in celebration of Destiny 2's first year on PC.
It was also noted that if you already own Destiny 2 on PC, you'll be getting a special in-game Emblem as a show of gratitude. Wear it with pride, I guess.
It's important to reiterate that this is the base game of Destiny only, so you'll need to fork over some of your own money if you want to complete the package. More on that in a moment. For now, though, consider it an added bonus that you'll be jumping into the best version of the base game available. When Destiny 2 first launched, critics and fans alike were happy with the experience. Once a couple of months passed, however, it became clear that Bungie had not developed a long enough tail onto the endgame to keep folks coming back for more.
Over the next year, many of those issues were addressed through patches and updates. While the base game does not include the expansions, it still offers all of those quality of life adjustments that have helped elevate even the original experience. And if you like what you see, the expansions are easier than ever to get.
If you still need some convincing, you can grab the core Destiny 2 free of charge now and wait for the upcoming Gambit weekend to try out the latest game mode from Nov. 9-11. During that time, the Gambit mode will be open to all comers, no matter what DLC they may or may not have purchased. It's a rather brilliant new mode that's unlocked through the Forsaken expansion, tasking players with working as a team to take down waves of baddies while occasionally invading the world of their enemies to cause some real damage.
