Frozen was the biggest movie the that the animation division of Disney had seen in a very long time. Between the fact that the film put a major twist on the princess tropes that Disney themselves had created, and the fact that the movie had that song you couldn't escape, Frozen was absolutely everywhere. While Disney Animation frequently avoids making theatrical sequels to their animated movies, it was obvious that if an exception was going to be made, Frozen would be it, and after rumors implied one was probably happening, it was eventually confirmed to be on its way.
While we still have a lot of time to wait for Frozen 2, or whatever the new film will be called, Frozen as a brand has not stopped producing material, which means that we at least have an idea of where the story of the sequel may be headed. Here's everything we know so far about Frozen 2.
When Is The Frozen 2 Release Date?
Frozen 2 is currently set for release on November 27, 2019. This is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving in 2019, which is a release date that Disney has had nailed down for years. It's the same spot where the original Frozen was released back in 2013, and, in fact, it's the exact same day of the month. There's currently an unknown Fox/Marvel movie set to debut the Friday before, although, with the pending Disney/Fox purchase likely to have been completed by then, there's a decent chance that movie will get moved, assuming it happens at all, to make sure it doesn't interfere with Frozen's success. The next major release won't be for a couple of weeks when the planned Masters of the Universe movie opens a couple of days before Star Wars: Episode IX, which was pushed back from it's previously scheduled summer release.
What Will Frozen 2 Be Rated?
This early it's impossible to know what the MPAA rating of Frozen 2 will be, but the studio's recent efforts, including the original Frozen, have been rated PG rather than the more traditional G, and there's a good chance that Frozen 2 will follow suit. It's a safe bet we won't see anything beyond PG. Disney Animation has never gone that far before, and we wouldn't expect Disney to do anything that might cause families to reconsider which members should be attending the film.
What Will Frozen 2 Actually Be Called?
While Frozen 2 has been officially announced, if the movie will have any title beyond that, it's currently unknown. One rumor has hinted at a possible title, or subtitle, of Strange Magic. Since Disney rarely actually makes direct sequels to their animated films, we don't have a lot of history to give us an indication of what sort of title we might get. Wreck-It Ralph is actually the first movie getting a theatrically released sequel and its title is a little odd, with the subtitle Ralph Break the Internet, actually coming before the title Wreck-It Ralph 2. If that is meant to be an indication of how Disney sequels will be titled, we could be getting ready for Strange Magic: Frozen 2, or onething along those lines.
